The 2014 Wanderers Open was sponsored by Nashua and hosted at the Wanderers Sports Club in Windhoek from 06 to 08 June. Klein Windhoek Squash Club was represented by 21 out of 64 Players. All three men's finals were set with at least one of our players battling it out for the titles. Finals day on Sunday morning set off with an all KWSC final in the men's C Division between Björn Magg (KWSC) and Roland Ludwig (KWSC). Björn seemed to have no problem with the cold as he walked all over Roland 3:0, who was battling to warm up his limbs. Apparently this would have been different if there were any hot beverages served before the match. The men's B division final had Bjarne Graupe (KWSC) playing against Phillip van Schalkwyk (Wanderers) in a 5 set thriller. Although Phillip seemed to be cruising through the first two sets, Bjarne made a remarkable recovery from 0:2 down to a 3:2 victory. The crowd that had gathered, witnessed determination and agility from both players, but Bjarne just seemed to have more of it in the end. The men's A-division final was battled out between Norbert Dörgeloh (KWSC) and Cliffy de Witt (Buccaneers). Norbert emerged victorious 3:1 from what seemed to be one of his routines. He once again demonstrated why he’s Namibia's Squash Giant. The ladies division was won by Carin Pretorius 3:0 against Adri Lambert, both Wanderes players and Nancy Fernandes from KWSC finished in 3rd place. This is our first little success story and congratulations to everyone that was part of it. This is just a taster of what quality squash our members are displaying and what is to come. A special thanks from the players to the supporters who had gathered on the cold Sunday morning to cheer them to victory. We value all the support!!!
